Parents House by Matharoo Associates

This house is a concrete residence for the architect’s elderly parents and their visiting sons, daughter and grand children. Architects: Matharoo Associates Location: Rajasthan, Ajmer, India
The Rajasthani city of Ajmer is an important destination on the Muslim pilgrimage trail and its suburb Pushkar also bears huge religious significance for Hindus. With a complex, dense and at times chaotic urban grain, despite its mofussil flotsam Ajmer exudes a slow pace of life. Pensioners typically retire to Ajmer, eager to enjoy its adjacency to both the Aravali foothills and lake below and retreat into laid back twilight years.

The attempt in this design is to address this very paradox and as a starting point, on one hand it looks at the inward looking traditional ‘Pol’ houses of Ahmedabad which are deep rooted in the memories of migrant owners of this house while on the other hand it looks for inspiration in the post- independence ‘Open Plot Dwelling’ best exemplified by Le-Corbusier’s ‘Shodan House’, also in Ahmedabad.

Passages Walter Benjamin by Dani Karavan

Karavan felt that the whirlpools on the coastline beneath the cemetery the turbulent life of the philosopher. He therefore created a steel tunnel leading down through the steep cliff toward to the sea. House on the slope of a castle by Fran Silvestre Arquitectos

The mountain, crowned by the castle, is covered by a mantle of houses that, by means of a system of aggregation by juxtaposition of simple pieces generates a fragmented white tissue that adapts to the topography.
